Report Mueller Reassigned Top FBI Agent in Russia Probe over anti Trump Texts

Special counsel Robert Mueller removed one of the FBI's top Russian counterintelligence experts from his team of investigators after an internal investigation found messages he sent that could be interpreted as showing political bias for Hillary Clinton and against President Donald Trump, according to US officials briefed on the matter.

"If that's the case, if something that was totally manufactured was then presented to federal investigators, to the FBI and said, 'You need to investigate Donald Trump and his campaign, '" he explained.

Strzok was exchanging the texts with Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer with whom he was having an extramarital affair, The Post reported.

Agent Peter Strzok exchanged politically-charged text messages with Lisa Page, who was also a member of Mueller's investigative team at the time; the messages expressed anti-Trump views, according to both newspapers.

Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) says he will hold the FBI's top brass in contempt of Congress for months of stonewalling information about a potentially biased FBI agent.

The person was not authorized to speak about it by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

"The Department has already provided members of [the House Intelligence Committee] and House leadership with several hundred pages of classified documents and multiple briefings - including, for example, clear answers as to whether any FBI payments were made to a source in question related to the dossier - and has more recently cleared key witnesses they have requested to testify, including Mr. McCabe, Mr. [Peter] Strzok, and the alleged handler in question". The president has also continued his longstanding criticism of the FBI's Clinton email server investigation which Trump initially cited as his reason for firing FBI Director James Comey in May of this year.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted that he "had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI".

ABC has now suspended Ross for four weeks without pay - modest punishment for an error that probably had a lot to do with the stock market's dive early Friday.

"Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI 'agent's role in Clinton probe under review.' Led Clinton Email probe".

A former senior Trump administration official said Strzok was even-handed in all of his dealing with the Trump White House.

FBI headquarters declined to comment to NPR.

He is no stranger to complex and controversial investigations. "The OIG has been reviewing allegations involving communications between certain individuals, and will report its findings regarding those allegations promptly upon completion of the review of them", the inspector general's office said in a statement provided to NPR.
