Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington commits suicide by hanging Chester Bennington

The world was dealt quite the shock when the death of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington was reported.

"Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul". The Los Angeles County coroner's office revealed that they were investigating his death as a possible suicide after law enforcement authorities responded to a call at approximately 9 a.m.

So wide was Bennington and his group's reach, that even today's sports stars offered their words and took to Twitter to voice out their grief, and admiration for the late vocalist. Founded in 1846, AP has covered all the major news events of the past 165 years, providing high-quality, informed reporting of everything from wars and elections to championship games and royal weddings.

The musician was found hanging in his bedroom by a housekeeper.

The Los Angeles Dodgers' organist even paid his respects to Bennington by playing his rendition of Link Park's hit single "Numb" before the team took on the Atlanta Braves in the MLB.

Our GRAMMY® family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of two-time GRAMMY winner Chester Bennington.
